Quality Assurance Manager

POSITION SUMMARY: The QA Manager is responsible for the design, development, implementation, and execution of all quality assurance and food safety programs and systems throughout the entire supply chain (i.e. raw materials, manufacturing, storage, distribution, and restaurant) for all products in the Checkers/Rally’s system. 

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Supervise Quality Assurance Specialist.
  • Responsible for the design, implementation and execution of the Supplier Approval Vendor Certification process for new suppliers, existing suppliers and potential alternate suppliers of all Checkers/Rally’s food and paper products.
  • Approves and conducts plant, distributor and bakery production audits, product audits and to ensure consistent level of product quality.
  • Manages all activities related to the verification of the consistent quality and safety of all products supplied to the Checkers/Rally’s system, such as third party product audits, third party facility audits, third party bakery audits, temperature monitoring, and supplier production summaries.
  • Responsible for the Product Approval Process for all food and non-food product items and the maintenance of the approved product’s list.
  • Oversees all aspects of the Quality Assurance complaint process, ensures that all product quality, supplier service, and distribution issues reported are addressed in a timely manner, monitors data analysis for trends, ensures the maintenance of data, and ensures the communication of information to suppliers for resolution of current issue and elimination of future issues.
  • Uses recognized industry and regulatory practices and procedures to ensure brand protection by validating that all current and potential suppliers to Checkers/Rally’s system provide products that are safe, conforming and consistent.
  • Monitors, interprets, and manages technical issues associated with biotechnology, public health, toxicology, environment, animal rights, emerging food safety concerns, crises, and current industry issues, and develops action plans as appropriate.
  • Maintains knowledge of food safety, HACCP, current industry issues, and new technology regarding food and packaging products and applies appropriately.
  • Initiates and monitors the development, implementation, and maintenance of raw material, finished product specifications, formulas and corrugated and label proofs for all food and non-food products.
  • Develops, maintains and ensures the execution of the product review program for finished product evaluations to ensure product performance and compliance to established specifications.
  • Collaborates Legal department, Food Safety Manager and Operations in addressing customers claims regarding (eg, bones, plastic other foreign material issues).
  • Collaborates with R&D on the maintenance of the food allergen database of all ingredients.
  • Creates and ensures execution of Checkers/Rally’s Product Withdrawal and Recall Program by collaboration with all affected parties.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with regulatory and industry officials to maintain knowledge of and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and implement and communicates changes accordingly.
  • Gains perspective and actively participates in technical associations and conferences to ensure industry collaboration and learning and applies as appropriate for Checkers/Rally’s system.
  • Regularly provides upper management with product quality summaries and corrective actions associated with any quality issues.
  • Regularly reports to Supply Chain team on trends in regulatory inspection results, as a barometer of supplier food safety status overall.
  • Collaborates with the Food Safety Manager as required.

Education

  • Four-year college degree in Food Science, Biology, Chemistry, or related field required. 
  • Food safety Credentials a plus

 

Experience

  • At least 5-years quality assurance/quality control experience
  • Experience with Food safety, HACCP, quality systems, GMP, FDA, USDA, and regulatory requirements regarding process food.  
  • Experience with Product preparation/cooking procedures and equipment operation. 
  • Experience in QSR industry preferred
  • Experience in food production, supply management, or manufacturing. 
  • High degree of proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and Internet software

 

Essential Physical Requirements

  • Ability to Travel up to 60% of the time.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret written information such as procedure manuals, Company communications or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to frequently use hands to finger, handle or feel.
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods in one location which may be restricted to the employee’s workstation.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds
