Food Safety Specialist

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for supporting Food Safety in the Quality Assurance and Food Safety Department in the design, development, implementation and execution of all Food Safety programs throughout the entire restaurant chain for all products and restaurants in the Checkers/Rally’s system.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Manages third party food safety, health inspection, and pest control programs.  Ensures vendors are maintaining agreed upon service levels.
  • Manages and maintains quality and food safety documents, compliance reports, and business documents.
  • Analyzes and ensures compliance of all food safety related strategies, policies and tactics; maintains open communication with restaurant personnel to address the identification of food safety hazards and processes improvement opportunities.
  • Monitors and assists restaurants in complying with local, state and federal food and chemical regulations.
  • Identifies and addresses food safety performance management issues involving store personnel in conjunction with Operations.
  • Manages the monthly reporting and ensures 100% compliance of food safety programs.
  • Monitors and assists with closure process with effective validation at restaurant level through executive communication.
  • Effectively escalates, communicates, follow up and ensures closure of all Guest complaints involving food safety issues in collaboration with Operations, Legal and Quality Assurance. 
  • Provides communication, alerts, and follow up to senior leadership with concise data and topline concerns.
  • Reads and analyzes incoming documents, submissions, and reports to determine their significance and assists with action plans.
  • Prepares documents, reports, memos, letters, financial statements and other documents, using word processing, spreadsheet, database, or presentation software
  • Assist Quality Assurance Specialist as required.
  • Supports Food Safety Manager by visiting restaurants with regards to Food Safety issues as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Knowledge:

  • Experience with Food Quality and Safety required
  • Restaurant experience preferred

 

Education:

  • 2-year associates degree in science or a  four year food science degree preferred

 

Position Requirements:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Word
  • Proficiency in third party software systems
  • Ability to demonstrate a high degree of initiative
  • Possess excellent communications skill, both written and verbal plus the ability to make effective presentations to various group sizes
  • Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others at all levels in the organization
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task
  • Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality
